Bad Cats and Baubles Jigsaw Puzzle Review

Any cat owner knows how much cats love Christmas trees. Our cat used to climb our tree when she was a kitten and knock the baubles and decorations down.

Christmas and cats is a winning combination for me when it comes to jigsaw puzzles. The popular artist, Debbie Cook, has provided a colourful scene of playful kittens and festive tinsel.

If you're into your cat and Christmas themed jigsaws then the 500 piece Bad Cats & Baubles by Gibsons is a really wonderful addition to your collection.

Debbie Cook is one of my favourite jigsaw puzzle artists because she creates such wonderful cat scenes for us puzzlers to enjoy. Doing a Debbie Cook jigsaw is like putting on a favourite sweater; it's comforting and cozy and I'm never disappointed.

Bad Cats & Baubles is a 500 piece jigsaw by Gibsons. You may also find this design as a 500 piece called Cats and Baubles by SunsOut.

The design shows three kittens playing with tinsel and Christmas baubles in front of a decorated tree and cozy fire. And thank you Debbie for giving each cat a different colour of fur and eyes! Cat puzzles where too many cats have the same colourings drive me insane.

Puzzle Quality Notes

It's Gibsons, it's a consistently good brand. The pieces are cut well and fit together nicely. There is a good variation of standard puzzle pieces. Overall, a great quality jigsaw.

I do quite a few Gibsons jigsaw puzzles because it's a reliable make that I can trust to provide a good experience.

The worst thing I've ever encountered with this brand is that sometimes the backings on the puzzle pieces are not cut through properly and need to be separated. Occasionally the backings are also torn. These are minor quibbles as they never affect the front of the jigsaw puzzle.

Jigsaw Puzzle Construction Order and Tips

I actually show you step by step how I completed this puzzle here in my how to do a 500 piece jigsaw puzzle article.

So needless to say, I won't repeat that information here as it is laid out in detail for you on that page.

I think this is a great design for a beginner and upwards since it's got a good spread of colours and patterns in the jigsaw.

As a big hint, I'd say to start picking out areas of colour which don't feature much in the design such as purple, blue and yellow and leave the mass of reds and greens until a bit later.

What to Look for on Completing This Jigsaw Puzzle

The finished scene is one that all ages can enjoy looking at and great for working on around the festive season.

I don't have a lot of time before Christmas to enjoy puzzles, so I normally do quite a few with a festive design during January while I'm still feeling that seasonal cheer.

With younger kids, you could ask them to count or point out how many Christmas baubles they can find in this jigsaw or how many lights are on the Christmas tree.

Overall Experience With Bad Cats & Baubles

As with any Debbie Cook design, I loved it! I think she's one of the very best jigsaw puzzle designers when it comes to cats, although she's also very talented at a wide range of styles and does some very cute dog designs too.

It's an ideal jigsaw puzzle for someone who is new to doing jigsaws because it isn't too challenging due to the good spread of colours and patterns used. The fact that it's also a smaller 500 piece also makes it great for newbies as well.

I really enjoyed putting this design together and it's a lovely warm and cheerful Christmas scene. This one is going to be donated to another puzzler who adores cat jigsaws.
